Academic Technology Program
NOTE: This program has been discontinued for new incoming students in the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Program. However, it will continue for the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates
The Neag School of Education continuously strives to integrate Information Communication
Technologies (ICTs) into the curriculum and maintains an Academic Technology Program that includes a subscription to
an e-portfolio system, a personal response system, and the required use of notebook computers by
students in our
Teacher Preparation Programs .
To provide a high level of functionality and support, the Academic Technology Program
provides Teacher Preparation candidates with a three-year subscription to TaskStream, an electronic
portfolio service used by the Neag School of Education. The e-portfolio system is used to model the expectations of many
state certification requirements and the CT BEST program. The University of CT has also chosen e-Instruction's
CPS system as the UConn "standard" personal response system. Many UConn courses utilize this technology
for in-class responses, testing, and instant feedback for teaching. The device and subscription fees are included
in the Academic Technology Fee. In addition, the fee structure also provides each candidate
with unlimited access to the full suite of Microsoft Office applications (Windows and Mac OS), as well
as the latest operating system and other software packages required by the program.
The Academic Technology Program allows the school to take advantage of quantity pricing of
hardware and software, and to pass along these cost savings to our students while maximizing
the technology refresh cycle. Each student entering the program will receive a notebook computer
that has all necessary software pre-loaded and is network ready. Students will have access to
on-site technical support provided by the Neag School's Office of Technology and a contracted Third-party vendor.
The Neag School of Education believes that the notebook computer provides our Teacher
Preparation candidates access to a wide range of educational resources and well-supported
tools for communication, collaboration and learning. An added benefit to our program, not available through
many retail stores, is full replacement insurance. All of the notebook computers distributed through the
Academic Technology Program carry a 3-year warranty, as well as accidental damage,
fire, and theft insurance for the term of the contract.
Details of the program are included on pages in this website. If you have questions that are
