When should I apply for the Praxis 1 waiver?
You should apply for the Praxis 1 waiver as soon as you are admitted to the IB/M program. An original copy of the Praxis Waiver letter that you receive from the Connecticut State Department of Education is due in the Teacher Education Office before you begin classes in the fall of your first year in the program.

When should I take the Praxis II exam?
If you are a secondary education major, you should take the test when you have completed all of the courses in your subject area major, generally the fall or spring of your senior year. Elementary and Special Education majors may want to wait until they have completed student teaching to take the Praxis II exams.

Which Praxis II test(s) do I take?
Praxis II test information is online from Educational Testing Service. A more comprehensive description of the Praxis II is also available on the Neag School of Education website.

How can I pursue cross endorsement?
Students interested in cross endorsements should contact the State of Connecticut Bureau of Educator Preparation, Certification, Support and Assessment: teacher.cert@ct.gov You can not receive a cross endorsement until you have received your initial certification.

How and when do I submit my undergraduate plan of study?
Complete and have plan of study signed by your advisor. Submit 3 copies of Plan and 1 copy of your unofficial transcripts to Room 124, Gentry Building. Submit a preliminary plan of study during the first four weeks of your first semester in the School of Education. Submit a final plan of study during the first four weeks of your final undergraduate semester.

When do I apply for the Master’s program?
Students apply to the University of Connecticut Graduate School online by February 1 of their senior year.

How do I apply for the Master’s program?
Fill out the Graduate School online application. Print and fill out the “Residence Affidavit”(pdf). Send this form to the graduate admissions office. This form will ensure you are not charged out-of-state fees. You do not need to include a personal statement or letters of recommendation. You do need to include official transcripts if you have attended universities other than UConn.

Send the Graduate School a copy of your transcript listing spring semester grades and your undergraduate degree conferral date before beginning your master’s year.

How and when do I submit the Master’s year plan of study?

    • Download and save the Plan of Study (MS Word) to your computer and fill out the form electronically.
    • Your plan should include at least 30 credits.
    • Your plan should include 12 credits of EDLR/EDCI/EPSY 5092, a language and cultural diversity course, a leadership course, a research course and electives.
    • Special Education students also take EPSY 5113, 5116 and 5119.
    • Once the plan is completed, print out a copy.
    • Sign and date the form and have your faculty advisor sign.
    • Bring two copies to Room 124, Gentry by December 1 (wait until you have registered for the spring semester to complete the form).
    • Apply for graduation online through PeopleSoft.

How do I get certified?
Once you have completed all pre-requisites to recommendation for certification and all of your paperwork is filed with the Office of Teacher Education, (all grades submitted with no incompletes, Praxis I scores or waiver submitted, passing Praxis II scores submitted, and your approved plan of study submitted), you will be eligible for certification. The Neag School of Education will complete your certification paperwork will send it to your home address. Once you have reviewed it, submit it to the Connecticut State Department of Education.
