IB/M Second Year/Senior Students

Expectations for Second Year Students

  • Students must continue to develop their reflective and analytical abilities, particularly when working with and around children. At this point in the program, students should be paying careful attention to student learning and the impact of instruction on student achievement. Reflection and analysis of their own classroom practice as well as the practice of the clinic teacher is critical in developing a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between teaching and learning.
  • Students must demonstrate professional behavior and attitudes, both in clinic placements and in university courses. In the second year, the fall clinic placement and spring student teaching provide each student with opportunities to develop his or her professional identity and to practice professionalism.
  • Students should maintain personal contact with their academic advisor.
  • All students should have an approved final plan of study on file in the Office of Teacher Education by October 1 and should file their student teaching application with the Clinic Placement Coordinator by October 1.
  • Students do not take courses during their student teaching semester in the spring and therefore, students should complete their subject area major course requirements and all other coursework requirements by the end of the fall semester.
  • Students must be aware that they must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75, no incomplete grades, and no grades below a B- in teacher education courses in order to student teach. Students who do not meet these requirements will not student teach in the spring semester.
  • Second year students must apply to the Graduate School by February 1 in order to be admitted to the Master’s year of the IB/M program. Admission to the Graduate School requires a minimum 3.0 GPA. Graduate school applications can be completed online at http://www.grad.uconn.edu/applications.html.
  • Students must file their paperwork for graduation during the spring semestesr, using Peoplesoft. Students must have 120 earned credits to graduate.
