FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can I drop off my application(s) in person and where would I bring them?
A: Yes, you can drop off your application(s) by bringing it to the Dean’s Office in the Neag School of Education (Gentry Building), third floor, room 340.
Q: If I am applying for more than one scholarship, do my applications need to be in separate envelopes?
A: When applying for more than one scholarship you can put more than one application in an envelope, so long as all the materials for each application are kept together either by a clip or a staple. It is recommended that the completed application form be on top of each application packet.
Q: When the award parameters of a scholarship state “demonstrated financial need,” what do I need to submit to meet this requirement?
A: There are no specific documents. However, some examples of what students have used in the past are: a) a copy of documentation from the Student Financial Aid Office, b) included specific information in the one-page essay, and c) in some cases students have provided both.
Q: What is the application/nomination deadline?
A: 5:00 p.m. on February 15th. If the deadline falls on either a Saturday or Sunday, the due date will be moved to the following Monday.
Q: Can I apply for more than one scholarship?
A: Yes, you can apply for as many scholarships as you want, so long as you include the required application form and supporting material for each scholarship.
Q: What do I do if I am interested in a scholarship that says “Awarded by nomination only, NO applications accepted?”
A: For a nomination only scholarship, you are encouraged to express your interest to your advisor or another faculty member who can submit your name for consideration if they so choose.
Q: How will I know if I have been selected to receive a scholarship?
A: You will be notified by letter, followed by an invitation to the Neag School of Education’s Honors Celebration.
Q: What is the Honors Celebration?
A: It is an evening event recognizing the Neag School’s scholarship recipients from the past academic year. The scholarship donors are also invited to this event, so this allows a wonderful opportunity for donors and recipients to meet.
Q: How will I receive my scholarship monies?
A: The Bursar’s Office directly transfers the scholarship funds into the student fee accounts. If a student has completed his/her program, they can contact the Bursar’s Office directly to request a check.
Q: Are there any expectations associated with receiving a scholarship?
A: After the Honors Celebration, recipients will be asked to write a thank you letter to the donor(s). A week or so after the celebration, a letter containing donor and mailing information will be sent to each recipient.
