The Hartford Catholic Worker House is part of the nationwide Catholic Worker movement. The Catholic Worker Movement, founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933, is grounded in a firm belief in the dignity of every human person. Today over 185 Catholic Worker communities remain committed to nonviolence, voluntary poverty, and hospitality for the poor. Catholic Workers continue to protest injustice, war, racism, and violence of all forms. Husky Sport's connection to the Catholic Worker House in Hartford comes through the House's after school and Saturday programming for the children in Hartford's North End. Portions of the Catholic Worker's and Husky Sport's missions overlap in that there is an emphasis on conflict resolution, programs for those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and reaching out to those with low socioeconomic status.
