Research Centers

Accelerated Schools PLUS (AS PLUS)
national headquarters for the comprehensive school reform program designed to transform whole school communities – especially those set apart by high poverty, low academic performance and remediation.

Center for Behavioral Education and Research (CBER)
The purpose of CBER is to conduct and disseminate rigorous research that improves educational and social outcomes for all children and youth in schools. Areas of interest include design of instruction, literacy, learning strategies, positive behavior support, applied behavior analysis, evidence-based practices, organizational and system change, and academic and behavioral assessment and evaluation.

Center on Postsecondary Education and Disability (CPED)
promotes equal educational opportunities for students and adults with disabilities; educates and supports pre-professionals and professionals in the field, and develops state-of-the-art practices in disability services.

Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME)
conducts research on improving the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels (K-16), and to implement changes informed by research. The CRME will serve as a teaching, training, and research and development center whose purpose will be to improve mathematics instruction at all levels and the academic performance of all students learning mathematics throughout Connecticut.

OSEP Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
a consortium of researchers, advocates, teacher educators, professional association leaders and families to give schools capacity-building information and technical assistance for identifying, adapting, and sustaining effective school-wide disciplinary practices.

National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRCGT)
is home base for a nationwide cooperative of researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and others who have a stake in developing the performance and potentials of young people from preschool through postsecondary levels, and includes three Core Research-I universities (UConn, Univ. of Virginia and Yale).

Neag Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development
focuses on developing the abilities of young people from diverse backgrounds by developing and implementing research-based instruments, curricular materials, program development strategies, and personnel training programs designed to translate theory and research into effective practice.

A.J. Pappanikou Center for Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD)
works to enhance the quality of services and supports for people with development disabilities and their families, through innovative teaching, research and technical assistance.

Reading-Language Arts Center
serves as a coordinating agency for the improvement of literacy instruction and literacy teacher education from the undergraduate through the doctoral levels. The Center faculty provides graduate programs and courses within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction that offer concentrations in reading and language arts, including programs that lead to state certifications.

UConn Center for Education Policy Analysis
conducts original research, analyzes legislative policy initiatives, provides technical assistance and informs education and public policy leaders about the development, analysis, and implementation of educational policies.
