CEPA Co-Sponsors Educator Evaluation Conference, November 22 and December 9

Dr. Morgaen Donaldson, CEPA Associate, presents her research on teacher evaluation to an audience of 200 Connecticut educators on November 22.

Evaluating Educator Effectiveness Symposium: The Role of Evaluation in Improving Teacher and Principal Effectiveness. The symposium is sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents, the Uconn Center for Education Policy Analysis, the Connecticut Center for School Change, and the Connecticut State Department of Education. This two-day event aims to bring together leading researchers to inform Connecticut superintendents, principals, and teachers about how evaluation could be used to improve teacher and principal effectiveness. One day of the symposium will be devoted to developing an understanding of value-added methods and considering the appropriate role of value-added data in assessments of educator effectiveness. A second day of the symposium will explore ways to enhance the broader impact of evaluation on teaching, learning, and achievement.

In his newest book, Gene Glass describes the current state of education and what he sees as the future fate of public education in America. Dr. Glass is a highly regarded education researcher and policy analyst. He has been referred to as “the father of meta-analysis” for his ground-breaking work in that area. His past research has dealt with grade retention, class size, and school choice. Dr. Glass is a past President of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the American Psychological Association (APA).

2007 Events

Magnet School and Public School Choice Research Conference. This research symposium brings together experts from around the country to address the goals of school choice programs in light of recent changes in constitutional law along with presentations of the best and most rigorous research on the impacts of public school choice programs. The symposium will be held at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.  The event is co-sponsored by the Magnet Schools of America. (November 28-29, 2007).
