CT Academic Skills Assessments for Applicants to Teacher Preparation Programs: Praxis I
Who Must Meet The Academic Skills Requirement?
Connecticut law mandates a series of assessments to assure that each prospective teacher has essential skills in
reading, writing, and mathematics, subject knowledge competence, and professional knowledge competence.
Individuals seeking formal admission to a Connecticut teacher preparation program, or seeking certification in
Connecticut, must fulfill the academic skills requirement:
1. By taking and passing all three PRAXIS I Academic Skill Assessments in reading, writing and mathematics, OR
2. By qualifying for and obtaining a Praxis I waiver. If you are eligible for the Praxis I Waiver, you do not need to take
the Praxis I Academic Skill Assessments. To determine if you are eligible for the Praxis I Waiver, click here.
