Rebecca D. Eckert, PhD
Assistant Clinical Professor


Rebecca D. Eckert, Ph.D., is a clinical professor in the Neag School of Education where she works with pre-service teachers at the graduate and undergraduate level as they prepare to meet the needs of all students K-12. She also serves as the Professional Development Center Coordinator for two partner school districts in Connecticut. In her former role as the Gifted Resource Specialist for the National Association for Gifted Children, Rebecca helped to launch NAGC’s comprehensive website overhaul and co-edited the book Designing Services and Programs for High-Ability Learners with Jeanne Purcell. Her previous work at The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented included participation with the research team that developed and implemented the Schoolwide Enrichment Reading Model (SEM-R) and this engaging collaborative effort continues with a new phase of implementation at the middle school level. Her research interests include talented readers and enjoyment of reading, recruitment and preparation of new teachers, arts in the schools, and public policy and gifted education. She is a former middle school teacher with experience in geography, history, and theatre arts.
