Neag School of Education Teacher Education Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Program

The Integrated Bachelor's/Master's
Teacher Education Program

World Language Education

The IB/M teacher certification program for students seeking World Language Education (7 - 12) certification in Connecticut is a three-year program combining the junior and senior years with a mandatory fifth year. By the end of the program and the completion of all requirements, the student has received both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, and is eligible for the University of Connecticut's recommendation for certification in Connecticut.

The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut offers certification through the IB/M program in French, German and Spanish; certification in Italian and Latin are also offered through the TCPCG program.

In addition to the teacher preparation curriculum, students in World Language Education are required to complete 36 hours of course work in the language to be taught. In addition to coursework, students in World Language Education complete five school-based clinic placements: two junior year placements, two senior year placements including student teaching, and a fifth year internship. For more details, see the Subject Area Requirements and Sample Semester Sequence below for the particular language to be taught.

Admission to the IB/M program is specific to a particular certification area. Under normal circumstances, students are not able to change their primary certification area once admitted to the program.

For additional information or questions about the World Language Education program, please contact the faculty advisor.
