Sixth Year Diploma in Professional Education
The program leading to the Sixth-Year Diploma in Professional Education provides an opportunity for advanced students who have the master's degree to increase their professional competence through further study under the guidance of a faculty member. The program is structured to continue the academic preparation of experienced and qualified educational administrators, supervisors, and master teachers in their areas of specialization. In addition to 30 academic credits that complement previous coursework, a culminating project is individually designed relating to professional practice. The Sixth-Year program can also be tailored to meet certification requirements (i.e., cross-certification in Special Education).

The Sixth-Year Diploma in Professional Education is not a degree offering. While the doctoral program in Special Education leads to a research degree, the Sixth-Year Diploma results in a certificate of advanced leadership preparation. Successful candidates receive a Diploma of Professional Education, which is generally recognized by school districts and educational agencies as a valuable academic credential beyond the master's degree.
