Educational Technology
Doctoral Program
Our elite Ph.D. program focuses on how people think and learn, and how technology can enhance the way people think and learn. Our program prepares qualified researchers that contribute scholarly work and provide substantial contributions to the field of Educational Technology and Cognitive Science. Areas of research into practice include New Literacies, Situated and Anchored Instruction, Problem-Based Learning, Instructional Design, online participation in avatar-based virtual environments, and Web-Based Online Learning.
Our internationally known faculty accept approximately 4 to 5 doctoral students annually. Support for doctoral students is competitive and largely based on need and qualifications. Decisions are made on an annual basis, typically during Feb/Mar admissions. Each student creates an individual plan of study. Doctoral preparation includes a portfolio-based comprehensive general exam, dissertation proposal, and public defense of the dissertation.
