Mission Statement:
The Laboratory for Sport Management and Sociology aims to provide an environment in which graduate students are actively engaged in:
- research with other graduate students and faculty members
- teaching undergraduates in classroom settings as well as serving as resources to them outside the classroom through individual instruction, and
- planning, promoting, and providing of valuable service both on UConn’s campus and in the Greater Hartford area.
Goals:
1. To conduct quality research that contributes to both the established disciplines within sport management (e.g., marketing, management, organizational theory, organizational behavior) and the emerging interest areas that examine management in sport through a sociological lens (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, diversity, work and family balance).
2. To prepare experienced, well-qualified educators in the field of sport management who can successfully engage future sport managers in the pursuit of knowledge.
3. To expose graduate students to the value of service learning and give them the opportunity to use sport as a means to interact with the community.
