Sport Management (BS)
The University of Connecticut Neag School of Education offers a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Sport Management. The undergraduate program is designed to prepare students to enter careers in the sport industry. The program has a diverse student population representing a variety of geographical, cultural, educational and professional backgrounds. A student in the Sport Management program at UConn must complete the following courses in Department of Kinesiology: Sport in Society, Sport Marketing, Issues in Sport, Introduction to Recreation Service Administration, Sport Management, Sociology of Leisure, and Sport Law as well as fulfilling a requirement for a Directed Observation and Participation experience and a research-oriented Independent Study. Sport Marketing majors can choose from a variety of cognate areas: Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Finance, Business Law, Communication Science, Sociology, Psychology, and Educational Leadership. A variety of required field work and internship opportunities help to develop students for careers in sport and athletic organizations. Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue careers in intercollegiate athletics, facility management, professional sports, the sporting goods industry, private/public sport clubs, resorts, and event management. Some students choose to continue their education through graduate studies in sport management, law and business.
