Athletic Training Education Program
Retention Policy
All students will be advised regarding their progress through the academic program. Students will be retained and progress the ensuing semester by meeting the following requirements:
1. Maintain university standards regarding scholastic performance (see ACADEMIC REGULATIONS in the undergraduate catalog).
a. Students who have earned 24 or more credits and have earned a 2.0 GPA or less for that semester or have a 2.0 cumulative GPA will be placed on academic probation (removal will occur once GPA is raised above a 2.0).
b. Two ensuing semesters with a 2.0GPA (cumulative or semester) or lower may result in dismissal from the university. If student maintains a 2.3 cumulative GPA, but has two semesters of a 2.0 may not be dismissed.
2. Adhering to all ATEP Policies as noted in the Policies and Procedures Manual (refer to respective graduate year).
3. Must successfully pass all athletic training classes. Successful completion of any athletic training course means a C or better (not a C-):
a. Failure to meet this retention requirement in any of the clinical rotation classes (EKIN 221, 222, 223, 224, 225) will result in cessation of program coursework. Clinical rotation courses are only offered annually and are sequential in content, therefore the student will not be allowed to progress with subsequent coursework until passing the failed course (e.g. Cannot take EKIN 222 unless EKIN 221 is successfully passed).
b. Failure to meet this retention requirement in the following courses: EKIN 239, EKIN 260, EKIN 292, EKIN 250, EKIN 252, EKIN 234, EKIN 251, EKIN 246, EKIN 254W, and EKIN 255 will result in re-enrollment and passing of the course and will affect the student’s progression through the degree program. The academic course for the previously listed classes are sequential in nature therefore a student must successfully pass the course before moving on in their studies. It will take the student an additional year to complete the degree program.
c. Failure to meet this retention requirement in of the remaining athletic training courses will result in re-enrollment and passing of the course, and progression through the Athletic Training Education Program sequence will not be affected. It will may however take the student an additional year to complete the degree program (delay will depend on year and course).
